> Task Force for Foster Care Support
Formed in 1999 in response to the vast need for increased support to the hundreds of New Bedford area youth in foster care, the Task Force for Foster Care Support is a vital component of NBCCC.
The Task Force works on many fronts to stimulate efforts aimed at making fundamental improvements in the state’s foster care system. The Task Force also advocates for greater public support of the hundreds of foster children and teens in greater New Bedford.
Task Force for Foster Care Support Subcommittees: Fund-Raising & Development, Recruitment, and Education
Fund-Raising & Development
This subcommittee hosts a series of projects and events which bring light the need for increased community-wide support for “kids in care” and raise money in charitable funds for the Foster Children & Teen Enrichment Fund, and provide financial support for local foster children and teens to take part in “enrichment activities and programs” that will enhance their well-being and development.
Recruitment
The recruitment subcommittee works to expand the area’s pool of quality foster homes by conducting a coordinated multimedia marketing and outreach foster parent recruitment plan.
Education
The educational subcommittee works to improve the educational attainment of foster children so that it is comparable to the general population of the children in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Foster Parent Satisfaction
The foster parent satisfaction subcommittee works collaboratively with Foster Parents and the Department of Children and Families (DCF). The subcommittee conducts surveys, compiles data and makes recommendations to DCF based on the findings. After each survey the subcommittee also holds a forum for Foster Parents to come together with DCF staff to discuss survey findings and the recommendations made.
Foster Children & Teen Enrichment Fund
Each year the Foster Children & Teen Enrichment Fund provides funds to area foster children so they may participate in activities that they might not otherwise be able to take part in. The commitment of the broader community ensures that these “kids in care” will be able to enjoy various enrichment activities and gain valuable insight and knowledge during their experience.
